Getting your bike mechanically ready for the MS Melbourne Cycle 2017Written by Mike from The Rapid Wrench Melbourne, Mobile Bicycle Mechanics  The MS (Multiple

March 27, 2016

Over the weekend (18-20th March, 2016), Mike from The Rapid Wrench Melbourne was asked to be the dedicated race mechanic for World Cup level Australian riders, Mick Hannah and Tracey Hannah.

These two siblings have vast racing expertise in downhill racing, and Mike was by their side taking care of their Polygon bikes over the weekend to make sure they could focus on the riding.

Mike himself has a primary interesting in downhill racing himself, so to have the illustrious job of catering to these two riding stars was a real pleasure for Mike. He also absolutely loves the mechanical and tuning aspect of these downhill bikes, and the Polygon brand.

Mike was out in the front yard until 10.30pm working on the bikes on the Saturday night, having only stopped for dinner si...

The MS Melbourne Cycle is a charity event where you can explore Melbourne while showing your support for people living with multiple sclerosis. It has now been running for 10 years straight.

See more information at www.msmelbournecycle.org.au

Previously in 2015, and back again this year, The Rapid Wrench Melbourne has provided 4 mechanics at 4 locations throughout the MS Melbourne Cycle. This years ride took place on Sunday 6th March, 2016.

The Rapid Wrench crew was setting up at 5.30am at the event village, and within minutes was asked to perform their duties, catering to cyclists whos bikes had failed them on the day. There were also the many people who had forgotten to take basic care of their bikes in preparation for the event- a great reminder to take these pre...

Festka bikes are here! In an exciting new launch on February 11th, importers and our partners Bicycle Buyer are showing 4 of their fresh new Festka bikes.

The bikes are a popular choice in Europe, are all custom ordered and built, and are more certain to turn heads wherever you go than anything else out there. If you don't trust my recommendation of their claim to fame, just check out their insane works or art on Instagram here.

Mike from TRWM was on-site at 7am, building a pretty Festka in front on the eyes of riders as they rolled in from their morning ride to have a coffee and free brekky. This was a great talking point for the morning, showcasing the brilliant service and collaboration between TRWM and Bicycle Buyer.

Festka bikes will be shipped out to cust...

Introducing The Rapid Wrench Melbourne's Santa Cruz V10C promo bike. What better way to turn heads than with this amazing fully custom downhill bike. This build started as a fun paint job, but ended with a full dosage of custom graphics and full parts matching to become a show bike. The whole process took 3-4 months. As an extra bit of history, this bike used to belong to Nathan Rennie in his 2011 race season. It has kindly been handed down to a couple of people since then, and eventually to me.

After I stripped and sanded the frame, Magneto Industries took care of the graphics for the frame, forks, shock, mud guard, and wheels. Phillip Buckman, a painter I know through motorcycling took care of the painting and clear-coated...

Over the weekend of 12-13 December we again supported the Victorian Enduro Tour run by Alpine Gravity. It was a busy weekend having to cater to over 200 riders.

Saturday was ridiculously cold, any I quite simply couldn't get warm until the end of the day. Reaching minus 2 degrees and snowing at the top, it hurt. However Sunday was amazing mid 20's weather!

The riders raced through 5 decsending timed trail races to compete within their class. The times from the 5 stages are combined to give the final time result.

This Round featured much more aggressive terrain, and much shorter trails with not too much climbing. The real kicker of the event was the final stage being run on DH1, the Mt Baw Baw official downhill track. It's rocky, steep, gnarly and has many jumps.

In April 2015, The Rapid Wrench's services were employed by VicRoads as part of the "Travel Happy" safety campaign. We set up shop on Melbournes busiest trails through Docklands and Northcote, offering free tune-ups to commuters. All they had to do was voice a pledge to do their bit to ride safer, which was eventually aired on TV and online to the masses.

Matt Keenan, a cycling commentator who regularly forms part of the international commentary team at the Tour de France, is one of the voices of the campaign and he was also present.

The campaign has seperate days and placements to target specific road user groups such as motorcycles, pedestrians, cars, trucks, and cyclists.

We were glad to offer the FREE tune-ups to Melbourne commuters as they poured on through....

We have partnered with Atma Cycles, a not-for-profit bicycle company that sells bikes in Australia, and all revenue goes to disadvantaged children in India to allow them to get to school and complete their education.

When you buy an Atma Bike, WE come to you within Melbourne to build it professionally, free of charge.

Atma Cycles works with an Indian non-profit, Mann Deshi Foundation3 to ensure that the bicycles reach the girls who are most in need. This program has been running since 2009 in the Satara District of Maharashtra, India and has given over 7,400 bicycles to schoolgirls so far. Atma Cycles role is to boost this program and give it the resources it needs to spread to other areas.

On the weekend of the 24-25th October in 2015, The 2015 Ride 2 Conquer Cancer was held. The Rapid Wrench Melbourne set up a base at both Tyab and Sandringham beach to give mechanical support to the 850 riders that came through. The event continues to raise millions of dollars each year for this charity work.

Mike from The Rapid Wrench is a Cancer survivor himself, and so he knows first hand what its like to go through this disease, and is glad to lend the support to these riders. It was a busy couple of days, fixing gears, spokes, and lots of flat tires.
